PlayStation Network Access Issue Causes Automatic Refunds for Ghost of Tsushima PC Pre-Orders in Non-PSN Countries

Customers who have pre-ordered the PC edition of Ghost of Tsushima will be refunded automatically if they reside in a region where PlayStation Network is not accessible. The multiplayer feature necessitates the use of a PSN account.

Various gamers have shared that Steam, Epic, and Green Man Gaming have initiated automatic refunds for their pre-orders due to the unavailability of creating a PSN account in their respective countries, as mentioned in a report by Eurogamer. This affects players in over 170 nations, predominantly in Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Ghost of Tsushima was open for pre-order in these regions for a period, but upon the game's release on Friday, it was suddenly pulled from online marketplaces. Players who had already pre-ordered the game in non-PSN countries will also be refunded.

A similar incident occurred earlier this month with Helldivers II. Sony had initially announced that a PSN account would be needed to partake in the game. Subsequently, the shooter was taken down from Steam in regions where the creation of a PSN account was officially impossible. This led to considerable controversy as numerous players who had bought the game would soon be unable to access it. Sony later retracted the requirement and removed the PSN restriction. As of now, the game has not been reintroduced in the Steam store of these affected countries.

While Helldivers II is exclusively multiplayer, Ghost of Tsushima primarily focuses on single-player gameplay. The title does feature an optional multiplayer mode titled Legends. The developer behind the samurai game, Sucker Punch, confirmed last week that the necessity of a PSN account applies solely to the multiplayer mode and is not mandatory for the main game. The PC adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima is set to launch on May 16.
