Technology giant Google has recently made headlines for reinstating some Indian apps that had been delisted from its Play Store. This decision came following a dispute between Google and the Indian government, which was resolved after a meeting was called to address the issue. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed the government's strong opposition to Google's delisting of certain apps, stating that they would not allow such actions to take place.
Some of the reinstated apps include Info Edge India's flagship apps such as Naukri, 99acres, and Naukri Gulf, as well as People Group's matrimony app Shaadi. Info Edge co-founder Sanjeev Bikchandani praised the efforts of the team in getting the apps back on the Play Store, noting the great crisis management that was involved. While it's uncertain whether Google will restore all the delisted apps, the government's intervention has been seen as a positive step for the affected companies. Google's move to delist the apps had sparked criticism on social media, with some accusing the tech giant of monopolistic practices. The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) also condemned Google's actions and urged for the reinstatement of the affected apps. It was mentioned that Google had removed the apps due to disagreements on in-app transaction fees, with Google wanting to charge between 11 to 26 percent, which faced opposition from the companies. Overall, the reinstatement of the Indian apps on Google's Play Store following the government's intervention has been a welcome development for the companies involved. This incident sheds light on the ongoing challenges and negotiations between tech giants and app developers regarding fees and policies within digital platforms.Google Reinstates Indian Apps on Play Store After Government Intervention
