7 months ago 128734

A recent issue has been reported by a Google employee regarding a small number of Drive desktop app users experiencing files disappearing. The employee is currently investigating the problem and has provided some precautionary measures to take. In recent weeks, some users have taken to Google's help forum to report the loss of months' worth of Drive files.

One user shared that all files uploaded since May of this year had suddenly vanished. While the topic has been taken offline for reasons unknown, it can still be viewed via Web Archive. Unfortunately, the files that have gone missing are currently unrecoverable, even with the assistance of Google staff. There has been an outpouring of responses to the initial message, with around two hundred people indicating that they are experiencing the same issue.

The Google employee responsible for investigating the problem has assured users that they are working on providing additional updates as they become available. The reported issues seem to be isolated to the Drive desktop app versions between 84.0.0.0 and 84.0.4.0. Users are strongly advised against pressing 'Disconnect account' within this desktop app and should refrain from deleting or moving the DriveFS folder.

It is recommended that users make a local copy of the DriveFS folder to prevent any potential data loss. At this time, it is unclear how widespread the issue is and whether it is a global problem affecting all Drive desktop app users. As the investigation continues, affected users are encouraged to stay updated on any new information provided by Google. It is always important for users to regularly back up their files and data to prevent any potential loss in case of unexpected issues like this one. Being vigilant and taking precautionary measures can help minimize the impact of technical glitches and ensure the safety of important files stored on Google Drive.
