The majority of the Dutch House of Representatives has recently approved a motion to prohibit online advertisements that promote gambling. The House believes that online games of chance with a 'demonstrably very high risk' should also be banned. This initiative was put forward by the SP.

Applicant Michiel van Nispen of the SP has submitted a total of six motions, urging the outgoing cabinet to address issues related to online gambling. These motions have been approved by the House of Representatives, indicating support for the proposed policy changes. The cabinet now has the option to incorporate these decisions into legislation, implement them through other means, or potentially disregard them.

In addition to the ban on online gambling advertisements, the House is pushing for gambling providers to conduct BKR tests on players to assess any potential debts. The Gaming Authority should also be empowered to verify the use of false IDs, ensuring that gambling providers adhere to their duty of care. The House has also passed a motion to ban gambling games with a high risk factor, particularly those where the player has no control over the outcome and there is a short time frame between the bet and the result.
