With over 100,000 homes in the Netherlands having two fiber optic connections, NOS reports based on data from Telecompaper. KPN, in particular, is known for installing its own fiber optic network even if there is already a competitor's connection available.

In recent months, there has been a significant increase in homes with multiple fiber optic connections, as reported by NOS. According to figures from research agency Telecom, KPN plays a major role in this trend. The telecom company has stated that it intentionally chooses to lay its own fiber optic cables for customers, regardless of existing competitor networks.

KPN aims to convert 80 percent of its customers to fiber to the home connections within three years, even if there is already fiber optic available. This will result in a higher number of homes having dual connections in a short period of time. Competitor Delta has voiced criticism against this strategy to NOS, stating that it is a costly endeavor that will ultimately be passed on to customers.

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets has expressed support for the dual rollout of fiber optic connections, believing it promotes competition and provides consumers and companies with more choices.

As of the end of last year, there were 7.13 million ftth connections, with owners of double fiber optic connections being counted twice in the statistics. Approximately half of the country's fiber optic network is owned by KPN.
