ASML has entered into a declaration of intent along with the municipality of Eindhoven to continue its growth in the Netherlands. The company and the municipality will collaborate to explore the possibility of expanding in Eindhoven, specifically on the Brainport Industries Campus.

ASML and the municipality of Eindhoven formalized the declaration of intent announced on Monday afternoon. The chip machine maker has indicated the desire to expand on the northern section of the Brainport Industries Campus, as outlined in the letter of intent. While there are no concrete plans for expansion yet, ASML and Eindhoven will investigate the potential for growth. The municipality believes that the site could accommodate up to 20,000 ASML employees around or after 2030. The BIC North site, situated near Eindhoven Airport, is still in the development phase.

ASML has previously stated its goal to significantly increase its workforce in the Netherlands by the end of the decade. Currently employing over 20,000 individuals, the company aims to double this number to 40,000 by the end of the decade. The municipality views the Eindhoven location as suitable for this expansion. By taking this step, the manufacturer would broaden its operational presence in the Netherlands. ASML's current Dutch campus is based in De Run, Veldhoven.

"As previously mentioned, ASML prefers to maintain its core activities in the Netherlands in close proximity to its existing locations in Veldhoven," stated financial CEO Roger Dassen. "BIC presents an attractive option for us, which we are now exploring alongside the municipality of Eindhoven." A final decision regarding ASML's expansion in Eindhoven is expected later this year. Dassen had already expressed earlier this year during an interview with Tweakers that the company aims to expand within the Netherlands. However, discussions have arisen in recent months regarding this decision, with the company expressing concerns about the business climate in the Netherlands, including talent availability, infrastructure, and housing. ASML even hinted at potential future expansions overseas. To address these concerns, the outgoing cabinet introduced the Beethoven project, allocating 2.5 billion euros for the Brainport Eindhoven region, from which ASML is expected to benefit. ASML has expressed satisfaction with the government's plans and hopes for parliamentary support, as they align with the company's overall business environment and potential expansion plans at BIC.
