The Miss Universe pageant has recently faced challenges after being taken over by Thai billionaire Anne Jakrajutatip's JKN Global Group in October 2022. However, allegations of fraudulent activities and bankruptcy have plagued JKN Global Group, leading to legal troubles for the company. The ownership of the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) has changed hands multiple times, with JKN Group facing issues as the newest owner.

The shift of management from the U.S. to Thailand caused friction and led to the departure of key staff members. In addition to financial troubles, JKN Group has been involved in a lawsuit filed against it for alleged embezzlement. These controversies have led to reports of JKN Group selling 50% of Miss Universe ownership to Legacy Holdings Group of Mexico, owned by Raul Rocha Cantu, who has his own controversial past.

The controversy surrounding Anne Jakrajutatip has further damaged the reputation of the Miss Universe pageant. Former Miss Universe president Paula Shugart spoke out against Anne, accusing her of defaming her character and implying that past winners had bought their titles. Paula's statement received support from other former Miss Universe titleholders, highlighting the importance of transparency and integrity in the pageant industry.

The uncertainty surrounding JKN Group's ownership has caused the Miss India Organisation to abstain from competitive pitching for the Miss Universe license in the hopes that the pageant's credibility will be upheld in the future.
